If you disagree with an ATO decision

How you can dispute or object to an ATO decision.

Options if you don’t agree

If you don’t agree with a decision that the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is likely to make or has made about your tax affairs, you may be able to:

  • dispute the decision – you’ll work with the ATO to try to resolve the issue early
  • lodge an objection – if you think the ATO has made a wrong decision.

Using one of the ATO’s dispute resolution options will provide an opportunity for you to discuss your concerns. It will also help the ATO gain a better understanding of your circumstances.
