About the program
The National Tax Clinic program is an independent, Australian Government-funded initiative that provides:
- free tax advice and support to eligible taxpayers facing financial, social or personal challenges
- practical experience for students studying tax-related courses at participating universities and TAFEs.
Support is provided by university and TAFE students, under the guidance of qualified tax professionals.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO):
- manages the funding for the program
- provides limited administrative support to independent tax clinics
- does not operate the tax clinics.
How the program works
Eligibility for support is determined by each tax clinic.
If you think you’re eligible, apply for help by contacting a specific tax clinic.
The tax clinic then:
- assesses applications and determines eligibility
- assigns eligible clients to a student adviser who provides support under the supervision of a qualified tax professional.
Community tax education events
All tax clinics can run tax education events either:
- in-person
- online.
Make a request directly to a tax clinic for:
- a schedule of upcoming community events
- availability to host tax information sessions.
